First Open Library Night of the Year
Many families visited the library on our first Open Library Night of the year, which was held on Wednesday, October 9th from 4-6pm. Families checked out books and chose books to keep from the Book Exchange. Some students took AR quizzes and one student even reached her goal! Also, our Guest Reader, fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Djakovich, shared one of her favorite children's books, The One and Only Ivan, a heartwarming tale based on the story of a real gorilla named Ivan who lived an the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Arcade. Find out more about this touching tale at http://theoneandonlyivan.com/.

Back to School
Welcome back to another exciting school year! It is so wonderful to meet our new third graders and to welcome back our fourth and fifth graders to the library. All classes attended library class last week and received a library letter and contract. Please read these documents and have your child return the signed contract to the library. Please note that the signed contract must be returned before students may begin borrowing library books.
Please join us this Wednesday, September 11th, for Open House at WW. Be sure to stop by the library to choose a free book for your child.
AR Informational Night will be held on Wednesday, September 18th. Parents of third graders, and families who have not attended previously, are invited to attend with your child to learn about AR levels, points, and goals. Three sessions will be held, 6:00-6:30, 6:45-7:15 and 7:30-8:00, but space is limited to 40 participants per session. Please RSVP by Friday, September 13th. We look forward to seeing you at the library soon!

Battle of the Books
Seventeen fifth-graders competed in this year's Battle of Books. After reading the books Maze of Bones, The Westing Game and The Gollywhopper Games earlier this year, students competed in teams to complete challenges, like unscrambling character names and completing sudoku puzzles. Congratulations to Mr. Kosinski and Mrs. Djakovich's teams, this year's champions. At this morning's award ceremony, the champions were given trophies and all participating students were given goody bags and a book of their choice. Congratulations to all students who competed in this year's Battle of the Books!

Breakfast with the Principal
Twenty-five students attended a special “Breakfast with the Principal” this morning for earning 200 points or more, the highest recognition level in our AR program. This year’s breakfast was held at Monkey See Monkey Do... Children’s Bookstore in Clarence, where students enjoyed breakfast, learned about how a picture book is created from local children’s author Maria T. DiVencenzo, and selected a book to add to their home library. Congratulations, students!

You're the Tops!
On Friday, June 7th, we held our final You're the Tops parade and reception for students who have earned 150 points or more in Accelerated Reader. We honored twenty-two students who paraded through the school and enjoyed breakfast with their families in the cafeteria afterwards. Congratulations students on this outstanding accomplishment!
