Track Your Child's AR Progress from Home

This week in library class students learned how to log in to their Home Connect accounts. Using Home Connect, students and parents can view reading goals, points, average percent correct, and scores on quizzes. Home Connect also links to the AR BookFinder, an online search tool that allows you to find out if there is an AR quiz available for a specific book, along with the level and points of that book. Please ask your child to show you how to log in following these directions: visit our library website http//wweslibrary.wix.com/wwlibrary, click on "For Parents" and then "Home Connect". Log in using your the AR username and password your child uses at school. We hope students and parents use this helpful resource to track Accelerated Reader progress from home.

AR Goals for Marking Period 2

Students have been setting their AR goals for marking period 2 in library class over the past week. Students will have until Friday, January 31st to reach their goal for marking period 2. Please ask your child what they selected for their new goal and why. After discussing the goal with your child, please sign and return the bottom portion of the blue reading goal reminder. If you have any concerns about the goal your child selected, please contact his or her classroom teacher or the librarian, Ms. Stokes.

Family Library Night

Family Library Night was held on Wednesday, November 13th from 4-6pm with our biggest turnout yet. Families choose free books to keep at home and checked out library books. At 5:30, third-grade reading specialist Mrs. DiJoseph presented on The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and other books by Kate DiCamillo. Mrs. DiJoseph read this book with her daughter and they both agreed it was one of the best books they had ever read. If you couldn't make it, be sure to check out the book trailer for this highly recommended book. The next Family Library Night will be on Wed., January 8th.

First Open Library Night of the Year

Many families visited the library on our first Open Library Night of the year, which was held on Wednesday, October 9th from 4-6pm. Families checked out books and chose books to keep from the Book Exchange. Some students took AR quizzes and one student even reached her goal! Also, our Guest Reader, fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Djakovich, shared one of her favorite children's books, The One and Only Ivan, a heartwarming tale based on the story of a real gorilla named Ivan who lived an the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Arcade. Library Club

Library Club is a new after school club for interested fifth graders. Due to the large number of students who signed up, there will be a Wednesday Library Club and a Friday Library Club. Wednesday Library Club will begin on Wednesday, October 2nd. Due to the Early Dismissal Drill, Friday Library Club will begin on Friday, October 11th. Please click here for the schedule.

AR Informational Night

 Many families attended our annual AR Informational Night on Wednesday, September 18th. After reading the book Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I Don't!) aloud, students showed their parents how to take an AR quiz on an iPad. All students in attendance received a free book and a timer bookmark to track their twenty minutes of daily reading. Please join us next year if you missed it this year!

Back to School

Welcome back to another exciting school year! It is so wonderful to meet our new third graders and to welcome back our fourth and fifth graders to the library. All classes attended library class last week and received a library letter and contract. Please read these documents and have your child return the signed contract to the library. Please note that the signed contract must be returned before students may begin borrowing library books.

Please join us this Wednesday, September 11th, for Open House at WW. Be sure to stop by the library to choose a free book for your child.

AR Informational Night will be held on Wednesday, September 18th. Parents of third graders, and families who have not attended previously, are invited to attend with your child to learn about AR levels, points, and goals. Three sessions will be held, 6:00-6:30, 6:45-7:15 and 7:30-8:00, but space is limited to 40 participants per session. Please RSVP by Friday, September 13th.
